| Purpose Our Purpose: To share "The Way" and equip youth for an amazing life of caring and serving while expressing love for Christ and others. The purpose of Student Ministry here at First Church was developed by students at a leadership retreat in March 1995. During the retreat students asked the question: What on earth am I here for? They discovered their answer in the Bible(God's Word) in the New Testiment book of Ephesians, chapter 2, verse 10 were is says: "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which god prepared in advance for us to do." Incorporated in this statement are five reasons we exist: 1. Honor(Worship)--we were planned for God's pleasure. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all you mind and with all your strength." -Mark 12:30 (NIV) 2. Connect(Fellowship)--we were formed for God's family. "So in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." -Romans 12:5 (NIV) 3. Grow(Discipleship)--we were created to become like Christ. "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus." -Philippians 2:5 (NIV) 4. Discover(Ministry)--we were shaped for serving God. "Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others." -1 Peter 4:10 (NIV) 5. Reach(Evangelism)--we were made for a mission. "Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity." -Colossians 4:5 (NIV) |
